Day 1 : 25012016
Day 1
January 25, 2016 – Sin Sze Si Ya Temple , Kuala Lumpur
What a busy day!
To start off, I could barely sleep last night because of my excitement going into local temple for the first time! We arrived at 0900 , temple already crowded with visitors. Dr Suchi gave some brief about our task. We measured the main structure first instead of going to detail. Due to the crowded surrounding, our activity were a bit disturbing and slow. Eventually, we managed to cover roughly 40% of our measuring documentation. We stopped at 0330 o'clock to do the on site sketching. I decided to start my sketch at the back entrance before going into more details.

Yap Ah Loy becomes established in Kuala Lumpur
The first Chinese miners were based on Malacca. They traveled as far as Sungai Ujong, Lukut and the mouth of Sungai Selangor. During the period of Yap Ah Loy, he built The Sz Yeh temple at Kuala Lumpur , on land behind the capitan house. This was named after the famous Capitan Shin
under whom Liu Ngim King and Himself had served in Sungai Ujong.
Capitan Shin was killed and beheaded, the blood that flowed out was white instead of red. Afterwars, Yap Ah Loy built the temple as to honor and worshiping him as a God. Till then, people that come to this temple were cured, worshiper were successful in business and there was a growing belief that the dead Capitan was now a powerful god.

Sense of Place
Ok, I know this is heavy reading, but that's ok. What you don't understand won't hurt you. What sparks your imagination and thinking may be the ultimate reward. Click on the link and don't forget to also check out some of the references at the end of the paper.
This is not strictly an architectural paper, it crosses disciplines. It will help you find the architectural readings.
Your assessment does require you to capture "a sense of place" in the temple. All Best!

Notes on Short Film
It's about a story, not a boring report.
It needs a story teller, not just a voice over
It needs a beginning and an end.
It needs a plot.
It needs characters.
It needs a clear Point of View ( we're seeing reality through whose eyes? Who is the story teller?)
It needs atmosphere.
I think your ideas will start to flow when you're into the site - feeling it, thinking... like I said.
So here's the deal... the week after next, when we've all begun to CAD our stuff, we will all present an idea for a story for the film. So we'll have 28 ideas. Post it on blog and discuss in class the next day so we argue and choose the best idea (or combination of ideas.) Then we'll go away to develop the film script, and get cracking.
START POSTING YOUR IDEAS ON BLOG FROM 29 JAN-2 FEB

Worm's Eye View Isometrics & Axonometrics
(https://www.pinterest.com/pin/353884483197086876/, accessed 22 Jan 2016)
It seems to me that the worm's eye view would be the best view for projecting your isometric drawings as the temple is very much experienced from eye level standing on the ground looking up. Try it! Should be much more instructive and experiential than the usual God's eye view.
In modern times Sir James Stirling was probably the architect who most popularised it by drawing his buildings that way himself.
